Occurrence of stromatolitic colonies has been observed in variegated limestones around Alagundi, and they are termed as 'algal stromatolites'. Depending upon the morphological similarities, four different forms have been recognised and their salient features described. Natural environmental factors that prevailed during their formation have been enumerated, and diminution of algal filaments into fine micrite is also discussed.- Albitized Slates from the Upper Kaladgi (Precambrian) Formations, Lokapur, Bijapur District, Mysore State

Detailed studies of the Kaladgi pelites occurring along the contacts of dolerite dykes, near Lokapur reveal interesting metamorphic and metasomatic changes. Due to contact metamorphism the pelities have been metamorphosed into hornfels. They have also been subjected to albitisation and silicification due to metasomatism, as revealed by chemical analyses.- Josyula Chinna Venkata Sastri (1940-2005)
